Room Temperature Formability and Microstructure of A286 Superalloy Sheet

Abstract

The work aims to investigate the formability and microstructure of A286 superalloy sheet at room temperature. The forming performance and forming mechanism of A286 alloy sheet at room temperature were studied. Through the steel mold expansion experiment and tensile test of A286 metal sheet, and with X-ray diffraction, OM, SEM, EDS and other characterization methods, the forming performance and microstructure characterization of the sheet were obtained, and the relationship between microstructure and mechanical properties was analyzed. The forming limit diagram (FLD), tensile curve and fracture microstructure of A286 superalloy sheet were obtained. A286 sheet exhibits good formability, with its performance showing an improving trend as the sheet thickness increases. The fracture of A286 sheet is characterized by typical ductile fracture, with its yield toughness being dependent on the tensile rate. As the tensile rate increases from 0.001 s^-1 to 0.01 s^-1, the elongation and yield strength of the sheet increase, while the tensile strength remains largely unchanged. The fracture surface becomes more irregular with a reduction in the number of dimples, indicating a transitional trend toward brittle fracture.
